Rafting F.A.Q.

What fork of the American river?

We launch @ Sunset Bridge ....I know that's not the real answer, but that all I know.

Who collects the money? Cash can be collected by Sue, Jeff Lamb.
Fee includes raft rental, insurance, and a buss ride to launch site from the Rivers End Park parking lot.

Do I really need a water gun? In years past, some poor souls showed up with squirt guns. Unless your big into humiliation ...don't bother. The rafting shop at the start sells water cannons capable of throwing huge amounts of water 30 feet or so. Consider it an investment in self defense.

How come no glass bottles are allowed?
Glass Bottles and water balloons are harmful to the ecology of the river and dangerous in the case of the glass bottles.

what if i can't swim or don't want to get wet?
For those of you afraid of a little water, don't want to get wet, or are not very good swimmers we will have at least one big raft designated as a safe zone. Kids are welcome, but parents will be responsible for their safety. The river itself is slow moving.

Can we take ice chests on raft?
Some people have asked about ice chests. It's certainly fine to have one in the raft. You'll want to keep it as small as possible, or consolidate into one large one. People in rowdy rafts end up all bruised up when large coolers are used, or if the cooler has sharp corners. Personally, I'm only bringing a soft one just for beverages.

What if someone gets hurt?
There will be a first aid kit on one of the rafts.
Rafters are still responsible for their own safety.

How are we getting tot he rafting site?
You'll be responsible to get yourself to Rivers End Park and back home. It's very important that everybody be at the park by 9:30. I'm going to do a quick head count then grab the rafts. At a minimum if you think your going to be late, call me at home Saturday morning before 9:30am or call my cell phone to let us know what's going on. Please also let me know or the person who invited you if you can't make it for any reason or if your bringing extra people.

Will there be water provided?
Bring a decent sized bottle of drinking water or Gatoraid as it can get really hot out there on the river. Beer drinking only makes dehydration worse. Last thing we need is somebody passing out on the water.

What about breakfast?
It's a good idea to eat breakfast before you get there as our time on the water is play time and it's hard to eat anything other than a granola bar or quickie-snack.

Finally, I would recommend everyone bring a towel and something to change into after rafting. You'll find it's much more comfy to BBQ in dry clothing ...REALLY!!!
